You'll find some guide books which tell you that Rome is no place for children. It can be overwhelmingly hot, the historical treasures that adults love can be tedious for young ones, walking round ruins and churches is tiring for little legs and the cobbled streets can be hard on small feet.Yet we know from both historical documents and from graffiti at Roman sites like Pompeii that this is exactly what happened. Built in the early 19th century for Pope Leo XIII, numerous offices of Rome's police departments call it home. The museum has three sections: one dedicated to the main categories of crimes; one that deals with investigation techniques and police search methods; and one that covers what is involved in serving a criminal sentence. Rome, home to the Pope and heart of the catholic religion, is a city of churches. The best way to reach Ostia is by using the metro. You can leave your Rome accommodation in the morning and be at Ostia within half an hour. Trains leave at station Piramide: get off the regular metro at Piramide, go up the escalator, turn immediately left and down the steps into the Roma-Lido station. Trains also leave at station Magliana, but we advise Piramide: this way you're sure to find a seat on the train.As you approach the impressive ancient amphitheatre in the center of the city, you can almost hear the Gladiatorial conquests getting under way. The largest amphitheatre to ever be built in the Roman Empire it was in its hey day, capable of seating up to 50,000 spectators. Primarily used for public spectacles such as executions, re-enactments of famous battles and animal hunts, this was stopped in the early medieval era.
